How I Made an AI-Powered Ad
How I Made an AI-Powered Ad
Hi! My name is Audrey!
During my digital marketing co-op term with My Ads Team, I figured I'd be writing ad copy, learning about SEO, maybe helping with campaigns. I didn’t expect to end up creating a full-blown video ad with lyrics, visuals, and a custom AI-generated beat. I got to experiment with AI tools, test real ad strategies, and create something from scratch that’s now being used to promote ThriveVine, a system that helps women marketers get high-quality leads without burning out on content creation or paid ads.
What started as a fun idea (inspired by the Ai Ad Express training from Jody Milward) turned into a full video ad with lyrics, visuals, music, and editing built entirely with AI. This blog walks through exactly how I did it, from feeding ad copy into ChatGPT to syncing everything together in Descript. No fancy gear, no pro editing skills just curiosity, support from the My Ads Team crew, and some pretty cool tech.
If you’re a marketer (or a co-op student like me) wondering how far you can push AI creatively, this is for you.
You can watch the final video here. Then keep reading for the behind-the-scenes.
Step 1: Turn Ad Copy into Lyrics (Yes, Really)
I fed my ad copy into ChatGPT and said, “Make this a song.” I gave it a vibe (Business Barbie, obviously) and a hint about who I was talking to (hello, badass business owners). The more specific I got, the catchier the lyrics turned out. If you're wondering how to keep the tone on-brand, just feed Chat exactly how you speak to your customers. Make it you, but musical.
Step 2: Match the Lyrics with Visuals
Next, I asked ChatGPT to brainstorm visual ideas that would match the lyrics and the theme. Again, Business Barbie. I got detailed here because when you tell AI exactly what’s in your head, the results get reallyyy good. And if your brand's more bold-and-edgy than pink-and-glossy, just swap the theme. AI’s flexible like that.
Step 3: Bring the Beat (via Suno)
I popped those lyrics into Suno, a tool that uses AI to turn text into fully produced songs. Yep, lyrics in, music out. Suno’s free to try, and it offers a few different styles and tempos you can tweak. I messed around until the beat matched the energy I wanted.
Step 4: Make the Visuals Real
I took the visual ideas ChatGPT gave me and put them one by one back into GPT-4 (don’t use the old versions; they just don’t get it). The more specific I got with my prompts, the more spot-on the images became. Think of it like briefing a designer. You get better stuff when you give better direction. I saved all the ones I loved into a folder for easy access.
Step 5: Turn Images into Video Clips
Using ImagineArt Video Studio, I turned those still images into short video clips. It’s super beginner-friendly. You just upload and go. It’s kind of like bringing your Pinterest board to life, one scroll-stopping frame at a time.
Step 6: Sync It All Up in Descript
This is where the magic happens. I uploaded the song from Suno and all my image-based videos into Descript. Then I layered the visuals over the music, tweaked the timing, and just like that, an AI-made video ad with more punch than a triple-shot cold brew. Descript’s perfect for this kind of layering. It’s an all-in-one audio and video editing platform that feels more like working in a doc than a traditional timeline editor. You can drag, drop, cut, and rearrange just by editing text, so it beats the learning curve of other editing tools like iMovie or CapCut by a mile.
Final notes
It sounds complex, but honestly? It was kind of fun. Like playing with LEGOs but for grown-up marketers.
The whole thing, from lyrics to final video, took me a couple of focused hours. And yes, I ran the ad. It didn’t just look cool; it actually converted. So yes, you can totally run these AI-made ads on Meta, TikTok, wherever your audience is. No issues.
How We’re Using This Video
We made this video to connect with women marketers who are running their own businesses or growing their agency, and looking to connect with more businesses, without chasing cold leads, dancing on TikTok, or juggling a dozen content channels. It’s part of a campaign for ThriveVine, our warm-intro network built for marketers who want more high-trust conversations and less “spray and pray” outreach.
